History of the province

The history of St. Clare Province Imphal states back to the year 1966 when 8 pioneers who set foot in Manipur and lit the light of Gospel after the example of their patron saints St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. It has spread its light to the different parishes of the Archdiocese of Imphal, Kohima, Dibrugarh, Diphu, Guwahati, Itanagar and Bongaigaon. The F.C.C. in North East grew in number and it became a province on 15th January 1998.There are 159 sisters working in this Province in which 72 are hailing from North East.



The first eight zealous missionaries reached in Manipur on 10th January 1966. They were Sr. Isabella , Sr. Stella , Sr. Henry, Sr. Mary Casilda, Sr. Hubert, Sr. Aloshia Sr. Josephine and Sr. Lisieux Augusta.

Standing near are, the, then Mother General of Pala, Mother Leo, Rev. Fr. K.C. George of the Archdiocese of Imphal and the then parish priest of Bharananganam Parish. It was taken place in the room of St. Alphonsa at Bharananganam.
